Tags are flexible model object properties that help organize and draw attention to different objects in your system. They're fully customizable, and with IcePanel's tag visualization tools, you can show different perspectives on your system to have more focused discussions.
With tags, you can highlight specific parts of your system like:
Risk
Cost
Security
Regions
Release versions
Deployment information
A maximum of 2 tag groups can be created per landscape on Free plans. For unlimited tag groups, upgrade to Growth or Isolation plans.
A Tag group is a collection or category for your tags. Tag groups and their respective tags are shared across a landscape and can be edited by users with Editor
or Admin
permissions.

You can view your tags in a diagram by opening the Tags bar at the bottom of the navigation. Click on the Tags
label or a Tag group to open it. Tags are only visible in a diagram when the Tags bar is open.
The Tags bar is a controller for:
Showing tags by Tag group in a diagram
Highlighting objects by tag by hovering over it
Pinning objects by clicking on the tag
Focusing on objects by tag
Hiding objects by tag
When the Tag bar opens, you can switch between Tag groups to view your diagram objects with their respective tags. Each object will display the tag's colour as a coloured bar on the bottom.
If an object has 2 or more tags applied, it will add a bar for each tag colour horizontally responsive. Connections only use the colour of the first tag applied unless hovering, pinning, or focusing on other tags.
Hovering on a tag will highlight all objects in that tag's colour in the diagram.
Pinning tags is a quick way to give extra visual attention to specific objects in the diagram.
To pin a tag:
Open the Tag bar
Click on the tag you want to pin
Click on the tag again to unpin it
Pinned tags apply a dotted line in the colour of the tag around the object. The tag name is also added to the bottom left of the object.
Tip: You can click on the pin icon (📍) to pin all tags in a Tag group. If an object has more than 1 tag, the dotted line will default to the first tag in the list.
Focusing on a tag allows you to reduce the complexity of a diagram by only showing the objects with the tag, their connections (any direction), and the objects they're connected to.
To focus on a tag:
Open the Tag bar
Hover on the tag you want to focus on and click the Focus
button
To unfocus the tag, click on the tag again
Only objects with that tag, their connections, and connected objects will appear in the diagram. Connected objects will be slightly greyed out. An indicator will appear in the bottom navigation to show tags in focus. You can also use this to unfocus the tag.
Hiding a tag removes all objects with the tag and their connections (any direction) in the diagram. It's a great way to show the difference when model objects are being deprecated or exist in a future release without removing them permanently from the diagram or model.
To hide a tag:
Open the Tag bar
Hover on the tag you want to hide and click the Hide
button
To unhide the tag, click on the tag again
Objects with that tag and their connections will disappear from the diagram unless you hover over the tag (they'll appear slightly greyed out). An indicator will appear in the bottom navigation to show hidden tags.
Note: You can hide more than 1 tag in a diagram
Using tags in combination with Flows is a great way to visualize use cases with an added layer of perspective. This can help your team identify anything from risky areas in a flow to expensive systems or apps that should be investigated for cost reduction.
If you prefer to view objects by tag in a list view, you can use filters in the Model objects tab.
Here's how to do this:
From your landscape, go to the Model objects tab
Click on the Filter
button
Click on Tags
Select which tags you want to filter
